Navy finds 239 unauthorized fishing nets in Kinniya

During a joint search conducted by the Navy and Police STF, a person was arrested with 239 unauthorized fishing nets in Maharoof area, Kinniya on 04 ^th June.

Naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command in coordination with the STF personnel of Shardapura carried out the search and arrested the suspect who made ready the stock of unauthorized fishing nets to sell. Among the seized items are 114 nets (each is 50m in length) and 125 nets (each is 100m in length).

The arrested persons along with the unauthorized fishing nets were handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries in Trincomalee for onward action.
