Navy retrieves 451kg of Beedi leaves and snuff product vials from Talaimannar seas

Naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command retrieved 451kg of Beedi leaves and 5,300 vials of snuff product from Talaimannar seas in the dark hours on 01^st June.

While on patrol in the sea area 1.7 nautical miles northeast of Thalaimannar, naval personnel onboard naval craft attached to the North Central Naval Command recovered 11 gunnysacks floating in waters. During further inspection, the naval personnel managed to find an abandoned dinghy in the beach as well. It is believed that the suspects have escaped the scene having noticed the approaching naval personnel.

Among the 11 gunnysacks, 04 contain Beedi leaves weighing 451kg and rest of the 07 includes 5,300 vials of snuff product. The seized dinghy, stock of Beedi leaves and snuff product were handed over to the Jaffna Customs for onward investigation.
