An ill fisherman rushed ashore by Navy for treatment
Sri Lanka Navy promptly sprang into action to rush a fisherman who had suddenly fallen ill, ashore for treatment today (24th May).
The patient was aboard the multi day fishing trawler ‘Surathlie 4’ which had left the Negombo fishing harbour for fishing on 20th May 2019. In response to information given by the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources about the patient, a Fast Attack Craft (FAC) attached to the Western Naval Command was promptly dispatched to retrieve the patient. Accordingly, the patient was transferred safely to the FAC at the seas about 58 nautical miles off the Colombo lighthouse and was rushed ashore while administrating him first aid. Upon arrival at the Colombo harbour, he was rushed to the National Hospital-Colombo for further treatment.
Further, Sri Lanka Navy assists to rescue the fisher folk and seamen in any emergency at sea conducting search and rescue missions. The Navy will continue with such assistance of transferring ill fishermen ashore when it would needed in future too.
