Southern Naval Command kick-starts non-operational bio gas project
After two months of modification and renovation, the non-operational bio gas project at SLNS Dakshina came into operation on 21st May 2019.
The project which was re-launched following the directives of former Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral KapilaSamaraweera was backed by the professional guidance of the Provincial Ministry of Electricity and Environmental Affairs, with the latest technical support to deal with food waste management issues.
The primary aim of the project is to produce renewable energy. Besides, initiatives of this nature would pave a path to reduce the carbon footprint and increase the green footprint, which will be crucial to the sustainability.
Under the visionary leadership of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, the Navy has already initiated a number of timely projects in all Naval Commands, for the preservation of blue-green environment.
