Dharma Deshana and alms giving held at Naval Headquarters in view of Vesak Poya Day

A Dharma Deshana programme followed by an alms giving was held at the Naval Headquarters today (18th May) to mark the Vesak Poya Day.

These meritorious acts had been organized by the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit (NSVU) in coordination with Commanding Officer SLNS Parakrama and its crew, in view of Vesak that commemorates the important events that took place in the life of Lord Buddha. This year’s festival marks the 2563rd year of Sri Buddhist Era.

After observance of Five Precepts, the Dharma Sermon was delivered by Ven. Polpithi Mukalane Panggasiri Thero, reminding the devotees of the importance of Vesak Poya Day. Thereupon, the mid-day alms giving was offered for 25 Bhikkus. Subsequently, the Ven. Maha Sangha transferred merits on fallen war heroes and invoked blessings on differently abled war veterans and all who was present.

The religious events were attended by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, President of the NSVU, Mrs. Arundathi Udithamala Jayaneththi, Navy Chief of Staff, Rear Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, Commanding Officer SLNS Parakrama, Captain Mahesh De Silva, members of the NSVU and a host of senior and junior naval personnel.
