Navy nabs eight (08) persons for engaging in illegal fishing

Navy apprehended eight (08) persons who engaged in illegal fishing in the seas off Kokkuthudai, today (10^th May).

Accordingly, a group of a naval personnel attached to a craft in the Eastern Naval Command, during a patrol carried out in the seas off Kokkuthudai, apprehended these 08 persons who had used banned nets for illegal fishing activities. Along with the suspects, two (02) dinghies, 02 outboard motors, 03 banned fishing nets and 565kg of illegally caught fish were also taken into naval custody. The suspects have been identified as residents of Pulmodai area.

The suspects along with the fishing gear and the stock of fish were handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries-Mulathivu for onward legal action.
