War hero remembrance ceremony held in Ampara
A ceremony to commemorate war heroes who paid the final sacrifice for motherland was held at the war memorial in Muwangala, Ampara yesterday (09th May).
The ceremony was presided over by Commander Southeastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Noel Kalubowila. The event was also attended by Deputy Area Commander, senior officers, sailors and members of war hero families.
At the outset a two-minute silence was observed in honour of fallen war heroes and venerable Maha Sangha conducted religious observances transferring merits on the combatants killed in action and invoked the blessings on the differently abled war veterans. Thereupon, close kin of war heroes left floral tributes in memory of all the brave souls who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the defence of the motherland.
Commemorating the supreme sacrifice of fallen war veterans, Ata Pirikara was offered to Ven. Maha Sangha and mementoes were also presented to the kin of war heroes.
