Navy nabs four persons for illegal fishing

Navy apprehended four (04) persons who engaged in illegal fishing in the seas off Chemmalei, yesterday (6^th May).

Accordingly, a crew of a naval craft attached to the Eastern Naval Command had apprehended these four persons who had used banned nets for illegal fishing, during a patrol carried out in the seas off Chemmalei. A dinghy, an OBM, 2 banned nets were also taken into naval custody. The suspects are residents of Madurankuliya, Negombo and Palliyawasalapadu areas.

The suspects along with the arrested fishing gears were handed over to the office of the Assistant Director of Fisheries-Mulathivu for onward legal action.
