Six (06) persons arrested with unauthorized fishing nets
Naval personnel arrested 06 persons with unauthorized fishing nets in the sea area of Sawaripuram yesterday (03rd May).
A group of naval personnel attached to the Northwestern Naval Command, during a search conducted in the sea area of Sawaripuram, arrested 04 persons for engaging in fishing activities using 04 unauthorized fishing nets. Meanwhile, the Navy also arrested 02 more suspects who were obstructing the naval duty by protesting the arrest of previous 04 suspects.
The arrested persons have been identified as residents of Puthukuduirippu in Silawathura, aged from 32 to 47.
The 04 persons engaged in illegal fishing practices together with their unauthorized fishing nets were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector of Mannar for onward action. Meanwhile the 02 suspects who obstructed the naval duty were handed over to the Silawathura Police.
