Navy averts the possible threat of flood to Wakwella area in Galle

Sri Lanka Navy removed logs and branches of trees clogged underside of the Wakwella and Mulkada bridges in Galle, yesterday (29^th April).

Due to the heavy rains to the upper areas of Gin ganga, it had been blocked by debris of bamboo bushes and logs from underside and since the area was under a risk of flood, Naval personnel promptly removed the collected debris making way for free downstream of river-water.

Accordingly, this task was conducted amidst a situation which most of the Naval personnel had been deployed for the special security duties considering the country’s instability. A troop of Naval personnel consist of divers and sailors of Marine Force attached to Southern Naval Command with the assistance of civilians engaged in the task under the directives of Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva and with the supervision of Commander Southern Naval Area Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera.

Further, Navy is on alert to provide any assistance which might be required for general public in an adverse weather condition predicted by Metrological Department.
