Navy apprehends 04 persons for engaging in illegal fishing
Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 04 persons for engaging in illegal fishing in the lagoon area of Puttalam on 27th April.
Accordingly, naval personnel attached to vessels belonging to the Northwestern Naval Command, during a patrol conducted in the lagoon area of Puttalam, arrested the 04 suspects engaged in fishing activities without a valid pass as well as for using unauthorized fishing nets. The Navy also took into custody 02 boats, 02 outboard motors (OBMs), 600m long illegal fishing net and 64kg of illegally caught fish. The suspects have been identified as residents of Kalpitiya area, aged 17, 31, 53 and 54.
The arrested persons along with the boats, OBMs, unauthorized fishing net, illegally caught fish and other fishing gear were handed over to Fisheries Inspector of Puttalam for further investigation.
