Navy held six persons for illegal fishing

Navy apprehended six (06) persons engaged in illegal fishing at Uchchmunai area, yesterday (25^thApril).

Accordingly, a group of naval personnel onboard craft attached to the Northwestern Naval Command, whilst on patrol, apprehended 06 persons who engaged in illegal fishing activities using banned nets.

The suspects have been identified as residents of Kalpitiya area, aged 23, 27, 29, 31, 32 and 39. Three dinghies, 03 OBMs, 14 banned nets and 30kg of fish were also taken into naval custody and those items along with the suspects were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector-Puttalam for onward legal action.
