357 recruits belong to the second phase of 235th intake pass out
Three hundred and fifty seven naval recruits (357) of regular and volunteer forces of the Sri Lanka Navy belonging to the second phase of 235 intake passed out at SLNS Shiksha in Poonewa, yesterday (10th April).
The Commander North Central Naval Area, Rear Admiral Muditha Gamage attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest and took the salute. Religious dignitaries, Commandant of SLNS Shiksha, Captain Janaka Nissanka, senior and junior naval officers of NHQ and SLNS Shiksha, Senior officers of the tri-forces and police, officers of government and private sector in the area, parents of trainees were also present at the occasion.
The ceremony also saw the sailors, who were outstanding in various spheres during their basic training, were awarded for their exceptional skill and commitment. Recruit HHMB Weerasooriya was adjudged the Best Recruit and the Recruit obtaining the Highest Aggregate in all subjects. Woman Recruit MACM Dharmarathna received the award for the Best Marksman while Recruit STC Jayalath and Woman Recruit RHMTA Gunawardena won the award for the Best Sportsman and Best Sportswoman respectively. “Abheetha” Division was selected as the Best Division.
Addressing the gathering, Rear Admiral Muditha Gamage also thanked the parents for giving the consent to their beloved children to serve the motherland with a noble resolve and to the Commandant and instructors for their commitment in moulding professionally competent sailors for the future Navy.
The Passing Out Parade which was held in a dignified sequence comprised of an impressive drill display and a cultural show performed by the Naval Cultural Troop.
Further, 188 recruits belong to the first phase of 235th intake, on completion of their basic training, passed out at SLNS Vidura in Sampoor on last 5th of April. Accordingly, 545 recruits of 235th intake have already completed their basic training and joined the Naval service.
