Navy bids adieu to Rear Admiral Ajith Samarasinghe

Sri Lanka Navy today (11th April) bade farewell to Rear Admiral Ajith Samarasinghe who held office as Director General Services. The senior officer relinquished his naval duties to which he was committed in the past 32 years.

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva along with Director Generals of the Navy extended best wishes to the retiring officer who is celebrating his 55th birthday today. Thereupon, Rear Admiral Samarasinghe was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions. After the fellow naval officers made their formal farewells to the retiring senior officer, the senior and junior sailors making a street line bade farewell to Rear Admiral Samarasinghe who was sent off amidst cheers.

Rear Admiral Samarasinghe joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an officer in the 04th intake of Kotelawala Defence University in year 1986. The outgoing officer held a number of key appointments in the Navy such as; Deputy Area Commander of Southeast & North, Deputy Director General of Sri Lanka Coast Guard Department as well as Director Naval (Project & Plan) during his distinguished naval career.
