Jet Ski riders send ripples across Beira, ‘Jet Ski Championship - Navy Cup 2019’ comes to a successful end
The Jet Ski Championship – Navy Cup 2019 organized by the Jet Ski and Power Boating Pool of Sri Lanka Navy for the 06th time, was held at the Beira Lake on 06th and 07th April, on a successful note. Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva graced event as the Chief Guest.
Jet skiing is a recreational watersport which is popular among the fans of watercraft racing around the world. In a bid to promote water sports in the island and catch the eye of sports loving spectators who swarm the city of Colombo this festive season, this spectacular tournament was set in motion by the pioneer in water sports in the country-Sri Lanka Navy. Further, Jet Ski Championship of Sri Lanka Navy remains to be the only such tournament taking place in the country for the promotion of jet skiing.
Meanwhile, this year’s tournament featured 130-300 horsepower ‘Slalom’, ‘Drag’ and ‘Veteran’ events which were contested by a large number of Jet Ski riders in the country. Besides, for the first time in SLN Jet Ski history, this year’s event featured a women’s event, making the tournament more exciting.
Apart from that, the Jet Ski and Power Boating Pool had made arrangements to hold Rowing, Dragor Boat, Power Boat and Kayak events as part of Jet Ski Championship. Accordingly, following athletes secured places in their respective events.

Besides, naval personnel riding Arrow Boats also showcased their excellent boat man oeuvres, much to the delight of the spectators.
Deputy Chief of Staff of the Navy and Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, Director Generals of the Navy, President Jet Ski and Power Boating Pool, Commodore Anura Danapala, senior officers, state sector officials and a large number of sports loving public were also present on the occasion.
