188 recruits of 235th intake pass out

Hundred and eighty eight (188) regular and volunteer recruits belonging to the 235th intake,on completion of their basic training, passed out at the main parade ground of SLNS Vidura in Sampoor, today(05th April). The Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sumith Weerasinghe graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Venerable Maha Sanga and religious dignitaries of other faiths, the Commandant SLNS Vidura Commodore Anura Kaldera, Officers representing the Naval Headquarters and Eastern Naval Command, officers and large number of sailors of SLNS Vidura, Senior officers of the sister services and Police, officials from the government/private institutions in the area and parents/relatives of the newly passed out recruits were also present on this occasion.

In recognition of the excellent performers, trophies were presented to them. Recruit HSM De Silva was adjudged the Best Recruit while WAM Sandaruwan was selected the highest aggregate in all subjects of the 235th intake. Further, Recruit DTK Premathilaka and Recruit AANM Amarasinghe were adjudged the Best Marksman and the Best Sportsman respectively. “Ranadheera” Division became the Best Division of the 235th intake.

The ceremonial evening was colourful with an impressive drill display presented by the passed out recruits of 235th intake followed by a cultural show of the naval cultural troupe associated with their traditional seafarers beats.
