7th Asymmetric warfare course concludes in a successful note

The Certificate Awarding and Insignia Pinning ceremony of 07th Asymmetric Warfare Course which was conducted by Special Boat Squadron was held at the Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda Auditorium in Trincomalee, yesterday (02nd April).The course was conducted at the Training School in SBS HQ, Trincomalee, from 07th January to 02nd April 2019. Rear Admiral Sumith Weerasinghe the Commander Eastern Naval Area graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Rear Admiral Sumith Weerasinghe mentioned that it is a pleasure for Sri Lanka Navy to share its hard-earned Asymmetric Warfare experiences with friendly foreign countries. Further, he reminded as to how the Sri Lanka Navy was successful in battling out the threat posed by the enemy in the maritime domain.

Special Boat Squadron (SBS) and Special Operations Force (SOF) of the Sri Lanka Navy conducted the course attended by 22 foreign military personnel from Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Netherlands, and Pakistan. Apart from that, four officers and four sailors from the Sri Lanka Navy were also followed in this arduous training.

The three-month long course was comprised of a wide range of Asymmetric Warfare experiences, Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTP’s) of LTTE sea tigers, weapon training, combat shooting, small group operations, jungle warfare, clandestine maritime operations, small boat operations, field training exercises, survival at sea etc.

Defence attaché from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands in Colombo, Capt Peer , Flag Officer Commanding the Naval Fleet Rear Admiral Ananda Guruge, Senior officers representing Naval Headquarters, officers and sailors of Eastern Naval Command were also present at the event.
