Navy gives pledge (Bakmaha Divuruma) to eradicate drug menace from the nation
The main ceremony in which the whole country gave a pledge to eradicate the drug menace from the nation, took place under the patronage of the President, His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena at the Independence Square, Colombo today (03rd April). Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva was also present on this occasion.
On the sidelines of the national ceremony, naval personnel also pledge their support to commit themselves to build a country free from the drug menace, during the main event organized at the Naval Headquarters this morning. It was presided over by Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Jagath Ranasinghe.
During this event, all naval personnel together with civil staff employees of the Navy pledged their utmost effort to build a prosperous country for the future generation, while eradicating this threat from the island. Addressing the gathering, the Navy Chief of Staff reminded that the country is now facing a daunting challenge of fighting the drugs, following the eradication of ruthless terrorism. He also urged the members of the gathering to refrain from drugs if they have addicted to such harmful substances. Further, the Chief of Staff also mentioned the praiseworthy role played by the Navy to eliminate this threat through a number of measures which have been set in motion. Accordingly, he highlighted the importance of working in unison to become a drug free nation.
Director Generals, a large gathering of senior and junior officers, sailors and civil staff employees were present on this event. Meanwhile, similar events to pledge support for this national agreement, have been simultaneously took place in every naval command.
