Navy arrests 04 persons engaged in illegal fishing with explosive

A group of naval personnel attached to the Northwestern Naval Command, arrested 04 persons engaged in illegal fishing with dynamite, during a patrol conducted in the sea area off Silawathura today (01st April).

Along with the suspects, a dinghy, an outboard motor and 16kg of fish were also held by the Navy. The arrested persons have been identified as residents of Mannar area. The 04 suspects together with dinghy, outboard motor and other fishing gear were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector of Mannar for legal action.

Further, a number of persons who engaged in illegal fishing activities, sold explosive were apprehended in the raids conducted by Navy during past few days. Accordingly, about 60 kg of water gel was arrested within the past months of 2019 and navy is keeping vigilant eye on such illegal attempts round the clock.
