Navy apprehends 05 suspects for catching fish using illegal fishing nets

Naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command, during a patrol conducted in the seas off the Norway Island in Trincomalee, apprehended 05 suspects who were catching fish using illegal fishing nets yesterday (26^th March).

The suspects have been identified as residents of Kinniya, at the ages of 20, 31, 33 and 40. Further, 225m long illegal fishing net, 02 dinghies and 1,291kg of illegally caught fish were also taken into naval custody.

The arrested persons, dinghies, the illegal fishing net, the stock of fish and other fishing gear were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries of Trincomalee for onward investigation, through Sri Lanka Coast Guard.
