327kg and 160g of Beedi leaves found in sea area of Talaimannar

During further search conducted in the sea area of Talaimannar this morning (21^st March) 04 sacks containing 327kg and 160g of Beedi leaves were found by naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command. The seized stock was subsequently handed over to the Jaffna Customs for onward investigation.

It is believed that the same suspects whom were arrested last night (20^th March) with 912kg and 460g of Beedi leaves might have attempted to smuggle this consignment also into the country.

Accordingly, the Navy has seized 1,239kg and 62g of Beedi leaves in total, during operations carried out on 21^st and 22^nd March.
