Navy-made 600th RO plant declared open by the President at Isurumuniya Viharaya

Marking yet another important landmark of the Sri Lanka Navy’s efforts to curb Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) reported in several regions of the island, the 600^th Reverse Osmosis (RO) Plant made by the Navy was ceremonially declared open by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena at the Isurumuniya Viharaya in Anuradhapura today (20^th March). The occasion was attended by Venerable Maha Sangha, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, Members of the Parliament and a large number of people in the region.

This RO plant installed by the Navy, will be able to supply safe drinking water for a large number of local and foreign tourists as well as devotees who often come to pay homage to the historic Isurumuniya Viharaya in Anuradhapura.

In a bid to provide safe drinking water for deprived community in areas where high prevalence of Kidney Disease is reported, a large number of RO units, manufactured utilizing Navy’s manpower and technological know-how, has been vested in the ownership of the public in a number of districts across the country to date. This generous endeavour carried out by the Navy following the visionary concept of His Excellency the President, is sponsored by the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease and various philanthropists who concerned about this worthy cause. As such, over 1.5 million of poor community in the country has now got the access to safe drinking water, as a result of Navy’s timely intervention in this noble project.

Going hand in hand with the policy for eradicating CKD form Sri Lanka, the Navy is determined to install a number of RO plants in identified areas in the future, in collaboration with the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease.
