Navy arrests a suspect while transferring gelignite in Pulmudai

Naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command in coordination with the STF officials of Pulmudai arrested a suspect with a cache of explosives illegally used for fishing, during a raid carried out in Yan Oya, Pulmudai yesterday (17^th March). During the arrest 27.55kg of gelignite (190 sticks) and a 35-foot-long safety fuse were recovered. The suspect was transferring the explosive items from Erakkandi to Pulmudai by a cab, when the arrest was made.

The suspect has been identified as a resident of Erakkandi, aged 23. The suspect along with the cache of explosives and the cab was handed over to the Pulmudai Police for onward investigation by the STF personnel.
