Navy nabs 11 persons engaged fishing with banned nets

A group of Naval personnel attached to the North Western Naval Command, apprehended eleven persons who engaged in illegal fishing with banned nets, during a patrol carried out in Mohothtuwaram area, yesterday (13^th March).

These suspects are residents of Norochcholai and Mampuriya areas and they are between the ages of 23 to 40. Four dinghies, four Out Board Motors (OBM), 225m long banned net, other fishing gears and 321 kg of fish catch were also taken into naval custody and subsequently, they were handed over to Kalpitiya Police for onward legal action.
