Rear Admiral Upul Ekanayake retires from naval service

Rear Admiral Upul Ekanayake who held office as Director General Electrical and Electronic Engineering retired from his 34-year-long illustrious naval career today (01st March).

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva along with Director Generals of the Navy in his retinue extended best wishes to the retiring officer who is celebrating his 55th birthday today. Thereupon, Rear Admiral Ekanayake was accorded a Guard of Honour in compliance with naval traditions.

After the fellow naval officers made their formal farewells to the retiring senior officer, senior and junior sailors, making a street line, bade farewell to Rear Admiral Fernando who was sent off mounted on a decorated vehicle amidst cheers.

Rear Admiral Upul Ekanayake joined Sri Lanka Navy in 1985 as an Officer Cadet of the 13th Cadet Intake. He has rendered a noble service to the organization during his naval career, while holding key appointments such as; Command Electrical Officer, Deputy Director Naval Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Commodore Superintendent Dockyard (East).
