Navy renders assistance to clean Maha Palugaswewa Tank in Mahawa
Navy rendered assistance to clean the Maha Palugaswewa Tank in Mahawa, Kurunegala which had become an unusable water source due to collection of salvinia and other floating ferns, today (23rd February).
Under the directives of the Naval Headquarters and guidance of Commander Northwestern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sujeewa Perera naval personnel attached to the Northwestern Naval Area together with Navy's Rapid Response Rescue and Relief Unit (4RU) took part in this public service initiative organized under the fifth endeavour of ‘Gammadda’ V Force. The effort was also joined by several volunteer organizations and community in the area. The cleaning effort which received high praise from the public in the region, will now pave the way for farming community to continue their agro-industries without much burden.
Besides, the Navy is very much instrumental in joining hands with governmental, non-governmental and the voluntary sector who organize Corporate Social Responsibility programmes to bring people together for social welfare.
