Navy assists to bring ashore injured fisherman
A Fast Attack Craft (FAC) of the Southern Naval Command rendered assistance to bring an injured fisherman on a multiday fishing trawler to the Hambantota fisheries harbour for immediate treatment today (16th February).
The multiday fishing trawler, 'Ashan 07’ had left for fishing from the Galle fisheries harbour on 07th February and this fisherman aboard got injured during fishing practices. Meanwhile, the Navy was informed about the incident through the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Colombo.
Accordingly, the Navy promptly directed an FAC patrolling in the vicinity to fetch the injured person. The FAC managed to spot the fishing vessel which was about 84 nautical miles off the Sangamankanda lighthouse and naval personnel safety transferred the patient to the naval craft. Subsequently, he was taken to the Hambantota harbour while administering necessary first aid on its way. Thereupon, he was rushed to the Hambantota General Hospital for further treatment.
