Japan-Sri Lanka Navy to Navy staff talks held for the first time in Colombo

The inaugural staff talks between the Sri Lanka Navy and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) was held at the Lighthouse Galley premises in Colombo on 14th and 15th February. The second day of the staff talks was graced by State Minister of Defence, Hon. Ruwan Wijewardene whom was warmly received by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva. Mr. Kentaro Sonoura, a special advisor to Japanese Prime Minister was also present on this occasion.

Commencing the proceedings of the second day, Director General Operations, Rear Admiral Niraja Attygalle welcomed the JMSDF delegation. During the two days of dialogue, the Sri Lankan delegation comprising 10 officers was headed by Director Naval Operations, Commodore Sanjeewa Dias. Meanwhile, the Japanese delegation was led by Director, Plans and Programmes Division, Maritime Staff Office, Captain Hiroyuk Habuchi.

The first ever staff talks between the two navies conducted in a cordial and friendly manner highlighting the importance of mutual relationships and strengthening the state of bilateral cooperation. Mementoes were also exchanged between the Commander of the Navy and Mr. Kentaro Sonoura to signify the importance of this occasion.
