Commander of the Navy visits North Western Naval Command
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva visited the North Western Naval Command on last 12th and 13th February. He was warmly received by Commander North Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sujeewa Perera.
The Commander of the Navy first inspected the divisions at the parade ground of SLNS Barana. Thereafter, he planted a sapling there and then addressed a cross section of officers and sailors of North Western Naval Command. Further, he posed for a photograph with the officers attended. Vice Admiral Silva paid a visit to the Naval Sub Units in the TAOR of SLNS Barana, inspected ongoing construction of married quarters for junior sailors, A530 craft (Hovercraft), acquired lands of SLNS Theraputta which are scheduled to be released for civilian owners and as the final event of the day’s itinerary inspected ongoing construction of Wardroom SLNS Barana. In the evening, a gathering had been organized to hoist the Navy Chief and a memento was presented to him by the Commander North Western Naval Area.
On the following day (13th February), the Commander of the Navy inspected the radars stationed at the Bathtalangunduwa Naval Sub Unit and observed an appropriate sea area for construction of a new jetty. Right after that, he paid an observation visit to SLNS Vijaya and examined the model structure of buildings planned to be constructed in the base and instructed to speed up the construction process. The ship’s crew was also addressed by the Navy Chief. The Commander of the Navy who paid an observation visit to the pre molding plant for plastic recycling established at the Anawasala Naval detachment, appreciated the Area Commander and the ship’s crew for their initiative in this process as a sustainable solution for garbage management. Concluding his visit, Commander of the Navy inspected SLNS Thambapanni and planted a mango sapling there as a signification of his visit.
The Area Commander North Western Naval Command, Department Heads, Commanding Officers, senior officers and sailors attached to the North Western Naval Command were present on these events.
