Practical stage of Search and Rescue Swift Water Training Programme begins at Kala Oya estuary
The Search and Rescue Swift Water Training Programme coordinated by the Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management (A-PAD) commenced at the Rapid Action Boat Squadron’s Headquarters (RABS HQ) on 16th January 2019.
Accordingly, the first practical stage of it got underway at the RABS HQ and Kala Oya estuary subsequent to the inauguration of the programme, with the participation of 25 trainees including 18 naval personnel and 07 members from the Air Force.
During the first day of training, practical as well as theoretical knowledge on areas such as safe means of entering into water, offensive and defensive swimming techniques, capsize drill for Emergency Response Boat (ERB) and throwing techniques of the lifesaving equipment was imparted on trainees.
For the training session, a lifesaving and emergency response rescuer kit which is of international standard had been used. This suit included a type 3 Personal Floating Device (PFD), a safety helmet, a wet suit, wet shoes and a wide range of modern equipment.
