Navy assists to apprehend 07 persons for engaging in illegal acts
 

Sri Lanka Navy assisted to apprehend 07 persons engaged in illegal acts at various locations in the island during the past few days. These suspects were held for engaging in illegal fishing, selling of narcotic drugs and fishing without fishery passes.

Accordingly, on information received by the Navy, a troop of Naval personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command in coordination with Police STF-Jaffna recovered a haul of explosive hidden under a bush, during a raid carried out in Koiyaththoddam area on 1st January 2019. The apprehended explosive included 7 chargers made of mixed c-4 and TNT ( weight-1.495kg ), 4 non electric detonators, 1.5 inch long fuse and these items were handed over to Jaffna Police for onward legal action.

Meanwhile, two persons who engaged in illegal fishing activities in the seas off 0.5 nautical miles off Dadella area, were apprehended by the a troop of Naval personnel attached to the Southern Naval Command, on 2nd January. A banned spear gun and other fishing gears possessed by them were taken into Naval custody and the suspects along with the fishing gears handed over to Assistant Director of Fisheries -Galle for onward action.

A troop of Naval personnel attached to the Western Naval Command apprehend two (02) persons who were selling heroin in Pasyala area yesterday (2nd January). By time of apprehension, they possessed 86 packets of heroin and a motor bike. The persons along with the nabbed items were handed over to Police Narcotic Division in Colombo for onward legal action.

Further, Naval personnel attached to the Southern Naval Command apprehended 03 persons who engaged in fishing activities without passes for fishing in the seas 4 nautical miles off Galle light house, on 5th January. Their trawler and a net were taken into Naval custody and the suspects along with the fishing gears handed over to Assistant Director of Fisheries -Galle for onward action.
