Rear Admiral Samantha Wimalathunge retires from Navy
 

Rear Admiral Samantha Wimalathunge who held office as Director General Coast Guard, bade farewell to his 34-year-long illustrious naval career today (12 December 2018).

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe along with Director Generals of the Navy extended best wishes to the retiring officer who is celebrating his 55th birthday today, before he was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions.

Thereupon, fellow naval officers made their formal farewells to the retiring senior officer. Meanwhile, senior and junior sailors, making a street line, bade farewell to Rear Admiral Wimalathunge who was sent off amidst cheers.

Rear Admiral Samantha Wimalathunge joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet of the 12th intake in 1984. He rendered a noble service to the Navy, holding a number of key appointments including Deputy Area Commander of Northwestern and Northern Naval Commands, Director Logistics Management Cell and Director Naval Projects and Plans during his distinguished naval career.
