Inter-ship/craft semaphore, flashing, ROR and rigging competition – 2018
The inter-ship/craft semaphore, flashing, ROR and rigging competition 2018 organized by the Naval Fleet Command was held at the Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda Auditorium in Trincomalee yesterday (27th November 2018). The Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sumith Weerasinghe graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet, Rear Admiral Ananda Guruge, Heads of Departments, Commanding Officers of ships and establishments and a large number of sailors were also present on this occasion.
A number of contestants who represented ships and craft belonging to the Eastern, Northern, Western and Southern Naval Areas demonstrated their superb craftsmanship in relevant fields, in the final round. The aim of the organization of this competition was to select the best performing ship and craft in rigging, ROR, semaphore and flashing. The teams from SLNS Sagara, Fast Attack Craft P 423 and P 414 emerged as the best semaphore and flashing teams in ship/craft category. Meanwhile, the teams which represented SLNS Sindurala and Fast Attack Craft P 410 were elected as the best rigging teams in ship/craft category. Moreover, the award for the Rule of the Road (ROR) was won by the teams of SLNS Sindurala and Fast Attack Craft P 492.
Those who displayed excellent performances during the competition were presented special awards in recognition of their individual performances as well. As such, Lieutenant EH Angammana of SLNS Sindurala won the award for the best ROR performer. Able Seaman MARDR Rathnasiri of P 424 Fast Attack Craft secured the award for the best Rigger. Meanwhile, Leading Communicator DMP Dissanayake of SLNS Sagara received the award for the most talented semaphore and flashing communicator in the competition.
