Navy provides a Pre Alert Geological Information System for Disaster Management in Puttalam district
The disaster management committee meeting of Puttalam district was held under the patronage of honourable State Minister for Irrigation and Water Resource Management Mr. Palitha Range Bandara, at the main auditorium of the Puttalam District secretariat on 15th October.
At the meeting, a Pre Alert and Relief System in a flooding situation developed by the Geological Information Systems Unit of the Information Technology Department of the Sri Lanka Navy was introduced by the Senior Staff Officer (GIS & SM) Commander(IT) Nadeera Kulapathi. This new system was praised and commended by the minister and the government officials attended in the event.
Further, the approval to implement this system in Puttalam district was granted and the Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe, Director General Operations Rear Admiral Niraja Attygalle and the Disaster Management team of Sri Lanka Navy were paid his gratitude by the minister appreciating yeoman assistance rendered by SL Navy during disastrous situations in the island.
This occasion was attended by the Commanding Officer RABS Headquarters Commander (TAS) Prasanna Hettiarachchi, Executive Officer SLNS Thambapanni Commander (NP) Buddhika Tharanga, Senior Service personnel and large number of government officials in the area.
