Navy assists to apprehend four (4) persons for engaging in illegal activities
Sri Lanka Navy assisted to apprehend 4 persons engaged in illegal acts at various locations in the island during the past few days. These suspects were held for engaging in illegal fishing.
Accordingly, 22 banned nets were recovered by a troop of naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command whilst on patrol in the lagoon area of Batticoloa on 30th Sep. and 1st Oct. The recovered nets were handed over to Assistant Director of Fisheries-Batticoloa for onward action.
A troop of Naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command apprehended four persons (04) who engaged in illegal fishing with banned nets in the Thalpadu area on last 2nd Oct. One dinghy, a banned net, 200 kg of illegal fish catchment were also nabbed and they along with the suspects were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries-Mannar for legal proceedings.
A haul of fish catch weighing 138 kg caught by using explosive, 2 banned nets and a dinghy were recovered by a Naval troop attached to the Eastern Naval Command in Salli, Sambalthivu area on 2nd Oct. The stock of fish, nets and the dinghy were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries -Trincomalee for legal action.
Further, 26 banned nets were recovered by a troop of naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command whilst on patrol in the lagoon area of Batticoloa on 3rd and 4th Oct. The recovered nets were handed over to Assistant Director of Fisheries-Batticoloa for onward action.
Meanwhile, on information received, a troop of naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command recovered a SFG 87 type hand grenade hidden under a bush in Vaunathivu area during a raid carried out in association with STF-Thanniyadi, on 5th Oct. and it was handed over to Thanniyadi STF camp for necessary legal action.
