SLCG receives two Inshore Patrol Craft built by Sri Lanka Navy
Two Inshore Patrol Craft (IPCs) built by the Inshore Patrol Craft Construction Project located at the Naval Complex Welisara formally handed over to the Sri Lanka Coast Guard at the Colombo harbour yesterday (07th September). The ceremony was presided over by Navy Chief of Staff, Rear Admiral Piyal De Silva and Director General Coast Guard, Rear Admiral Samantha Wimalathunga representing both organizations.
The 15m long and 3.5m wide craft are capable of pick up speeds of 35 nautical miles per hour and they have been designated as CG 209 and CG 210. The craft have been built incurring Rs. 80 million under carful supervision of Navy engineers and making use of advanced research and technical know-how in view of delivering quality output in accordance with international standards. The handover of these craft by the Navy would help proper execution of Law of the Sea which also comes under Sri Lanka Coast Guard’s 3 year plan.
Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, Director General Operations, Rear Admiral Niraja Attygalle and a host of senior officers and sailors from the Naval Headquarters, Western Naval Command and Sri Lanka Coast Guard were present on this occasion.
