Navy apprehends 27 Indian fishermen for fishing in Sri Lankan territorial waters
 

Twenty seven (27) Indian fishermen along with 4 dhows engaged in illegal fishing in Sri Lankan territorial waters were apprehended by the Sri Lanka Navy around 5.00 p.m. yesterday (10th August). The apprehension was made by a Fast Gun boat attached to the Northern Naval Command in the northern seas.

Subsequently, the Indian fishers and their dhows were brought to the naval base SLNS Elara today and the apprehended fishermen were examined for a medical test before they were handed over to the Jaffna Assistant Director of Fisheries through the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, for onward action.
