Naval Inter Command cycling Championship ended up at Poonewa
The Inter Command cycling Championship of Sri Lanka Navy -2018 commenced from SLNS Pandukabhya in the North Central Naval Command was held on 4th August. The championship was conducted in two categories for men and women. The men’s race participated by 89 cyclists was 90 miles distance while the women’s race participated by 17 contestants was for 20 miles distance.
The men’s race commenced from Poonewa ran through Madawachchiya, Settikulama to Parayanakulam Junction and took a turn there to return along the same way for the end at the Naval Base. The women’s race started from Poonewa ran to Madawachchiya town and took the same route back to Poonewa for the end. Accordingly, the overall championship of Men’s title was won by Eastern Naval Command while Southern Naval Command became the runners-up. The Training Command secured the overall championship of Women’s title while Northern Naval Command took position of runners-up.
Further, displaying their personal talents, Leading Seaman GGT Zoysa of Training Command secured the First place while Able Seaman UDS Prasanga of Eastern Naval Command and Petty Officer DU Rohana of Southern Naval Command secured Second and Third places respectively. In the Women’s race, Woman Ordinary Seaman PPNK Maduwathi of Training Command, Woman Ordinary Seaman HPS Madumali of Western Naval Command and Woman Leading Seaman JMCK Jayasekara of Training Command secured the First, Second and Third places respectively.
Commander North Central Naval Area Rear Admiral Muditha Gamage graced the Prize Awarding Ceremony as the Chief Guest. The Commandant SLNS Shiksha Captain Asoka Wijesiriwardena, Captain Logistics Department (NCC) Captain Vijitha Marapana, President Cycling Association of Sri Lanka Navy Captain Chandana Rathnayake and officers/ sailors of the area were also attended this occasion.
