Four Reverse Osmosis plants declared open
 

As part of another community service project being implemented by the Navy, four (04) Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants were declared open at Tissamaharamaya on 23rd July and at Meeminnagama, Kirimatiyawa and Matikotuwa areas yesterday (24th July).

Accordingly, the Reverse Osmosis plant installed at Yodakandiya village in Tissamaharamaya was declared opened for community use by the Honourable Minister of Housing and Construction Mr. Sajith Premadasa, on 23rd July. Commander Southern Naval Area Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera also attended this occasion. Three hundred (300) families will be facilitated with safe drinking water by this new RO plant.

The Reverse Osmosis plants installed at Meeminnagama village in Anamaduwa, Kirimatiyawa village in Nawagaththegama and Matikotuwa village in Dankotuwa were declared opened by HE the President Maithripala Sirisena through the Remote Communication Technology, yesterday (24th July).

The facility at Meeminnagama village is capable of producing clean drinking water for 350 families in the area. Meanwhile, the RO systems installed at Kirimatiyawa village and Matikotuwa village will supply safe drinking water for 420 and 550 families respectively. Naval Research and Development Unit designs and produces these RO plants using their technological competency and the Navy has successfully installed a total of 470 RO facilities across the country to date. Consequently, 92 RO plants have been vested upon the community service by Sri Lanka Navy only in the year 2018.

Further, the Navy is determined to continue with the project in a bid to provide safe drinking water to the people in kidney prone areas, as a national level partner in the process of eradicating chronic kidney disease in compliance with the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease.
