Newly constructed classroom building of Pier Village, Thalaimannar declared open
The newly constructed classroom building of Pier Village, Thalaimannar was declared open by the Commander North Central Naval Area, Rear Admiral Muditha Gamage on 13th July 2018. The project which was carried out as part of the Navy’s Corporate Social Responsibility efforts, received continuous guidance and directives of the Area Commander. The occasion was also attended by religious dignitaries including the Venerable Maha Sangha, Zonal Education Directress, Mrs. SS Sebastian, Principal, Mr. Wijayakumar, teaching staff and a large number of students and parents.
The construction work of this classroom building was carried out under the close supervision of the Deputy Area Commander, Commodore Priyantha Perera and Commanding Officer SLNS Thammanna, Commander Indika Gunawardena, incurring a sum of Rs. 1.8 million. Further, it utilized naval manpower to complete the construction work within a short time span of two months.
Meanwhile, the new facility dedicated for the Advanced Level students of the school was funded by Royal College Old Boys’ of East Coast Foundation, USA, Dr. Sukumar Nagendran, Vayu Resort, Ally Weerasinghe (Pvt) Ltd and well-wishers. The Zonal Education Directress, Principal and parents were full of praise for the noble effort undertaken by the Sri Lanka Navy.
