Navy pressed into action in search of missing persons at Ekgal Oya
 

On receipt of information to the Navy of  4 persons who had gone missing after a boat capsized at Ekgal Oya in Damana, Ampara yesterday (08th July), a team of 6 Navy divers was rushed to the location, under the directives of Commander Southeastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Ruwan Perera.

09 members from a group of 45 of Siri Seevali Vidyalaya, Kandana, attending an excursion organized by the school’s welfare society had gone missing at Ekgal Oya when their boat capsized at around 6.00 am yesterday. Meanwhile, 05 drowned persons were rescued by the villagers following the accident and Navy’s assistance was sought for the recovery of remaining 04 passengers.

Having promptly responding to the situation, Navy divers managed to find the bodies of 3 deceased persons with the assistance of villagers and Police. Among the deceased persons were the Principal of Siri Seevali Vidyalaya, Mr. KF Amarasooriya (53), a teacher, Mr. USK Chandima (43) and a pupil, Mast. WC Widarshana (13). The dead bodies were handed over to the Damana Police for onward action. Meanwhile, the Navy is continuously engaged in search of the remaining person missing, who is said to be the watcher of the school.
