Navy Civil servant awarded colours as Best Athlete at State Services Athletics
Sri Lanka Navy’s Civil servant Mr. EM Jayawardena who is attached to the Electrical Department of SLN Dockyard was awarded as the Best Athlete of State Services Athletics 2017. Mr. Jayawardena received his award from Deputy Commissioner of Department for Registration of Persons Mrs. Padmini Indrakanthi, at the Colours Awarding Ceremony organized by the State Services Athletics Association at “Kurulu Uyana” in Kalapaluwawa, Rajagiriya on 9th June 2018.
Mr.Jayawardena who joined the Sri Lanka Navy in 1997 as a Civil servant, has brought glory to the Sri Lanka Navy and the motherland as well while sharpening his sports skills achieving number of victories in both local and foreign level, during his unblemished career of 22 years continuous service.
Among his achievements, First place of 100m at State Services Athletics-2009, 5th place of 400m defeating contestants from 21 countries at Asian Athletic Games in Thaipe 2013, 4th place of 400m at Veteran’s Athletic Games in Japan-2014 are significant. Moreover, he won Bronze medal for 100m in 19th Asian Athletic games at Singapore and also the Gold medal for 400m and Bronze medal for 100m at 20th Veteran’s Athletic Games in China. Further, he is expected to participate in the World Veteran’s Athletic Games-2018 scheduled to be held in Spain.
The first places of Triple Jump, Long Jump and High Jump at the Athletic meet-2017 were also secured by Mr. Jayawardena. Mr.Jayawardena was supported for the success of his sports events by the previous Area Commanders and In Charges of Commodore Electrical Department in Eastern Naval Command and at present he is being supported by Commander Eastern Naval Area Rear Admiral Niraja Attygalle and Commodore Electrical Department (East) Commodore Aruna Anthony, other officers, sailors and his subordinate civil servants.
