Sri Lanka Navy Baseball team tours in USA
The Baseball team of Sri Lanka Navy who won the national title in the years of 2015, 2017 and 2018 participated in a friendly Baseball tournament from 2nd to 10th June 2018 in USA, on the invitation of Mr. Larry Frank, the Commissioner of Amateur Baseball Association of New Jersey, United States of America. This tour was coordinated by the ABA League Representative Mr. Rajiv Fernando.
Sri Lanka Navy team who took on four sports clubs named Bloomfield Buzzards, Branchburg Tortugas, Bergen Bulls and Wood-Ridge Titans, in friendly matches made three thrilling wins entertaining the spectators.
During the four match series, SL Navy players exhibited their usual talents and also got the opportunity to take part in the day and night matches as well. Further they were fortunate watch the main Baseball tournament of USA -“Major Baseball League”.
This tour organized under the directives of Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe along with the guidance of Director Naval Sports, Commodore Lasantha Gamage and Officials of the Navy Baseball Pool turned out to be a successful event due to the sponsorship of the South Asia Gateway Terminals Pvt Ltd, Sri Lanka Insurance Cooperation and Colombo International Container Terminals Ltd. Meanwhile the constant encouragement of Sri Lankans residing in New York and New Jersey, USA was also quite prominent during the tour.
The team was accompanied by the Officer in Charge of the Navy Baseball team, Commander Nilanga Dharmarathna and its Manager, Lieutenant Commander Roshan Katuwawala during this tour.
