Northern Naval Command appreciated in concurrent with World Blood Donor Day
 

In view of World Blood Donor Day, a felicitation ceremony for blood donors of their yeoman service to the world, was held under the patronage of Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine and Sri Lanka Blood Bank, at ‘Nelum Pokuna’ auditorium on 14th June 2018. The blood donors and mobile campaign organizers were felicitated in appreciation of their altruistic endeavours in blood donation. The theme of World Blood Donor Day-2018 is “Be there for someone else. Give blood. Share life”.

Further, Naval personnel attached to the naval ships, craft and establishments in Northern naval area, have frequently been contributing in such blood donations with the assistance of medical staff in Teaching Hospital-Jaffna. More than 700 naval personnel attached to Northern Naval Command have donated their blood for the use of more than 2000 needy patients in Jaffna peninsula. In appreciation of this humane practice, the Northern Naval Command was awarded a special credentials at the felicitation ceremony and the award was received by the Command Medical Officer Surgeon Commander Duminda Samarawickrama.

This blood donation is one of the social responsibility projects carried out by the Northern Naval Command and it is continued at the Blood Bank of Teaching Hospital Jaffna and at close proximity of naval bases as well. The Sri Lanka Navy will conduct blood donation campaigns in future also to save the human lives regardless of race or religion ensuring the harmony, as a well-disciplined force.
