Navy renders assistance to clean canals blocked at separate locations
Navy continues its rescue and relief efforts in a bid to help recover the community’s life, increasing the relief teams up to 65 and 55 boats to date.
Accordingly, naval personnel belonging to the Navy Marine Battalion with the help of airmen cleaned several canals located in Pattihandiya in Kelaniya and Peliyagoda, Welipara and Meegahawatta areas today (26 May 2018). The troops removed salvinia and other debris that hampered the free flowing of water.
Meanwhile, Navy relief teams also engaged in distributing cooked meals and dry rations to the flood affected people in the regions of Wijerama, Gampaha and Maeliya, Ja-Ela this afternoon.
Upon directives, the canal flowing near Hunupitiya Sri Wijesundararamaya was also cleaned by naval personnel.
