SLNS Sagara returns home on completion of successful naval exercise
Sri Lanka Naval Ship Sagara which left the island for Indonesia on last 24th April to attend Komodo-2018 Naval exercise and International Fleet Review, on completion of a successful tour returned to the Colombo port today (18 May).
On arrival in Colombo, she was welcomed in compliance with naval traditions and Senior Staff Officer (Operations) Commander (C) Janaka Samaranayake also attended this occasion. The Commanding Officer of the ship, Captain (C) Janaka Nissanka and Commander(C) Janaka Samaranayake held a discussion on the nature of exercises undertaken during the tour and their progress.
The main objective of this humanitarian aid and disaster relief "Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo 2018" was to rehearse combating against any disaster in the form of Regional Corporation. This exercise was not just a maritime exposure but enriched with multilateral activities. Among the events held, Sri Lanka Navy displayed their talents in the Sports activities, Marathon, Volleyball, Soccer and Cycling.
On 8th May 2018, SLNS Sagara and Indonesian ships carried out maritime exercises in Lombok sea area. The crew of SLNS Sagara experienced the exercise of replenishment at sea with two foreign ships at once, as the first ever such event in the Sri Lanka Navy's history.
During the Search and Rescue exercise held on 9th May 2018, SLNS Sagara emerged first completing her mission successfully. That victory proved the experiences of SL Navy gained through their past missions and it was commended by Indonesian Naval officers.
Commander Northern Naval Area Rear Admiral Meril Wickrasinghe, Aid and Personal Secretary to the Commander of the Navy Captain (G) ArunaTennekoon, 20 officers, 4 trainee officers and 168 crew of SLNS Sagara participated in this tour. The Defence Attaché Sri Lankan Embassy in Indonesia Captain (G) Mahinda Mahavithana was also present to watch these training exercises.
