Jet Ski hoons ripple Gregory Lake in Nuwara Eliya
The Jet Ski Championship-Navy Cup 2018 organized for the 5th time by the Jet Ski and Power Boating Pool of Sri Lanka Navy worked off on the waters of Gregory Lake in the salubrious city of Nuwara Eliya on a successful note on 21 April 2018. Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe graced this exciting event as the Chief Gest.
Organizing an event of this magnitude each year on the sidelines of ‘Wasantha Udanaya’ (Spring Festival) is invariably an ideal opportunity to promote water sports in inland waters of the country and catch the eyes of both local and foreign tourists who flock to Nuwara Eliya in numbers during this festive season.
This exciting tournament organized annually under the auspices of Sri Lanka Navy, remains to be the one and only tournament of that nature held in Sri Lanka. A large number of competitors across from different parts of the country unleashed their power boating and water sports skills on the waters of the Gregory Lake much to the delight of spectators and the following contestants secured places in respective categories.

The Mayor and the staff of Municipal Council of Nuwara Eliya also made a commendable effort for the successful conduct of the event. Meanwhile, Naval personnel presenting a display held spectators spell-bound by their stunning manoeuvres in alluring waters of Gregory Lake.
Deputy Chief of Staff and Director General Operations, Rear Admiral Piyal De Silva, Mayor of the Municipal Council of Nuwara Eliya, His Worship Chandana Lal Karunarathna, President Power Boating Pool of Sri Lanka Navy, Commodore Anura Danapala, its Secretary, Lieutenant Commander Chanaka Udayanga, senior naval officers and a group of government officials from the area were present on this occasion.
