Navy conducts a workshop on Flood Early Warning and Relief System
 

A workshop regarding Naval role in combination with other institutions in the area on a possible flooding situation to Rathnapura district and  establishing the Flood Early Warning and Relief System was conducted at the auditorium of District Secretariat Rathnapura , by  Sri Lanka Navy’s Geo Information System on last 8^th March.

Introduction of this Relief System to the key government officers in the district was fulfilled in response to a request made by District Secretary Rathnapura and further they were made aware of using GPS and Google Earth. The workshop was conducted by Commander (IT)  Nadeera Kulapathi under the supervision of Deputy Chief of Staff and Director General Operation Rear Admiral Piyal de Silva.

The workshop was attended by large number of officers from government and volunteer organizations including Director Naval Information Technology Commodore Priyantha Edirisinghe, District Secretary Rathnapura, all Divisional Secretaries, Assistant Divisional Secretaries, Officers of Disaster Management Centre, Commanding Officer of 8^th Gemunuheva Regiment, Senior Superintendant of Police Rathnapura, Irrigation Engineer, Officers representing Road Development Authority/ Ceylon Electricity Board and Public Health Inspector.

Sri Lanka Navy carried out a survey on Navy’s role and the relief system during the flood situation affected to Rathnapura district in May 2017 and based on these collected information this workshop was successfully conducted. The programme was appreciated by all participants.
