Commander of the Navy inspects divisions at VNF annual camp
 

The inspection of divisions at the annual camp of the Sri Lanka Volunteer Naval Force (VNF) was held at the VNF Headquarters in Welisara today (18 January) in the presence of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe.

Sri Lanka Volunteer Naval Force supplements and provides the Regular Naval Force with required assistance in the execution of tasks entrusted to the Sri Lanka Navy, as well as provides expertise and man power in times of national urgency and distress.   

This year’s training camp commenced on 02 January 2018 and was conducted for 17 consecutive days in Welisara honing the knowledge and skills of demobilized Volunteer Naval Force personnel. The event’s proceedings included Commander of the Navy's divisions cum a ceremonial parade and came to a close with dazzling music and dancing performances presented by the Navy cultural troupe.

Addressing the gathering Commander of the Navy highlighted the importance of the conduct of the annual camp of the Volunteer Naval Force with a view to imparting experience of NVF personnel harnessed by civil setup into the Navy, improving the training potentialities and comprehension of time honoured naval traditions among members and moulding a well-disciplined and efficient VNF naval personnel. Further, he went on to extend his appreciation to the VNF personnel who excel in the sports arena both locally and internationally bringing a lot of credit to the country.

The occasion was also attended by Director General Operations, Rear Admiral Piyal De Silva, Deputy Area Commander Western Naval Area, Commodore Sanath Uthpala, Director Generals of the Navy and a host of senior naval officers.
