Navy apprehends two suspects attempting to smuggle 7 kg of gold into India
 

Based on information received by the Navy, a group of naval personnel onboard a Fast Attack Craft belonging to the Northern Naval Command intercepted a suspicious dinghy in the seas northwest of  Kankesanthurai Lighthouse and apprehended two suspects with 7 kg of gold yesterday (16 January). The stock of gold had been craftily concealed in the boat’s anchor. It was revealed that the suspects were attempting to smuggle the consignment into India via sea.

The 7 kg of gold was in the form of 70 biscuits each weighing 100 g.  The apprehended persons, seized consignment of gold and dinghy were handed over to the Sri Lanka Customs for onward action. Meanwhile, the Navy also nabbed two persons with 600 g of gold in Pesalei, Mannar on 10 January.
